phones

I hate phones. Anyway I'm gonna list the phones I've used. My last phone before smartphone was a LG Neon Gt365. Loved that thing, used it for years. Finally got me a smartphone in I think 2012. It was the iPhone 4. Loved it! Looking back on it, perfect size/shape for a phone. Then I jumped ship for Android. Got a Samsung Galaxy S6 in 2015. Permanent Android convert. Then I got a Google Pixel 2 in 2017. Remember that one. Great phone. Active Edges, a wonderful feature that lets you squeeze the phone to do different stuff. Squeeze the phone for Assistant, for example. And then I got a Pixel 5 in 2020. I obliterated the screen of the Pixel 5 after it dropped face first onto a concrete floor. This is where things get weird, and I probably don't remember the timeline too well. I went back to my Pixel 2. By this time, Google dropped support for the phone, so I installed LineageOS on it. Perfect! Pixel 2 continued to be my phone for a while.

This is where I started gaining an interest in alternative phones. I went for a dumbphone. Nokia 225 I believe. It ran KaiOS, which sucked. Didn't have a good solution for music or podcasts on it. I replaced that with maybe my favorite phone, the Unihertz Jelly Star. Absolutely tiny little thing. Full featured Android, 3" screen. It had everything I needed, but it was so small as to not make a lot of things practical. Perfect! Get me off the sites!! I also used ThumbKey, a crazy one handed keyboard that I really loved. One day, I touched it, it gave me a little shock, and never turned on again. That was probably about two years ago. I still miss that phone. I went back to the Pixel 2, still doing its thing but definitely showing its age.

Feeling like I needed a phone upgrade as the Pixel 2 was reaching seven and a half years of age, but really hating the whole phone cycle thing that we have to go through, I opted to get a used phone. Got a Pixel 7a from Backmarket for $200. Great! A near perfect phone for pretty cheap. This is as good as a phone needs to be, what could be better? What is a Pixel 9 gonna do for me that this one isn't?? So yeah, that's been my phone since April 2025. But oops, while filming myself skateboarding, i dropped it face first on the damb cement, shattered the screen. Screen protector was fine though! But yeah, ruined screen. Still usable, but hard to see, and the thumbprint sensor stopped working as it's located behind the shattered glass. Whatever, I hate phones so I'm just gonna live with it.

Until today! Damb battery swelled up on me. Now I got a fucked battery and a shattered screen, stressed out cuz I need a new phone now! But Gosh I'd hate to spend money on a phone. Oh wait, I still have a Pixel 2 hanging out! That's right, I'm back on the Pixel 2 for the third or fourth time, as it reaches nine years of age. Ol' reliable. Insane, great job Pixel 2 and LineageOS, you've saved me a million times.
